Google’s Device Admin has been around since Android 2.2 and it was announced in 2017 that they would be deprecating it. As of Android 9.0 Device Admin has been deprecated and with the release of Android 10 in the fourth quarter this year the Device Admin policies will no longer be available. The other features of Android 10 are expected to be announced at Google IO on the 7th of May.

Android Enterprise is Google’s solution for Android’s continued use in the workplace. It’s features started from Android 5.1 so most if not all EMM solutions should have support.

What does this mean?

Any devices running Android 10 should be running Android Enterprise and any older devices should either be migrated, or they can continue to run Device Admin until they are replaced.
